Preventive care encompasses all the treatments provided by our dental hygiene team. Your bi-annual dental hygiene appointment (commonly referred to as the "check-up and cleaning"), for example, belongs to this category.
During this regular "check-up and cleaning" appointment you will receive a preventive scaling (tartar removal) to reduce the risk of periodontal (gum) diseases which have a proven negative impact on your general health. During this appointment, we will also look for signs of other common dental problems such as bruxism, teeth grinding and clenching ("eating your teeth") which, typically, lead to shorter undermined teeth and potential joint problems.
We routinely use intraoral cameras and laser detection of cavities during the periodic exam in order to have a closer and precise look at your teeth and gums. These non-invasive techniques allow us to literally explore your mouth with a powerful "magnifying glass" and thus provide a better diagnosis earlier. A computer screen is located in front of your dental chair so that you can also see the inside of your mouth in great details. With this unique viewpoint, you will be able to make a decision on the treatment that suits you best.
